Love Letters, a play by A. R. Gurney, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.  It shares the
hopes, dreams, disappointments, and joy of two people, Andrew and Melissa.  During the
play, they sit side by side and read the notes, letters, and cards that have passed between
them throughout almost 50 years of their separated lives.

The play will be performed at Community Theatre at 2:30 pm and 7:00 pm on Sunday,
October 18, 2015.  The two-person play will feature  Indiana State University
emeriti professors, Sheron Dailey and Lew Hackleman.  Both Dailey and Hackleman
are well-known performers in the Wabash Valley and beyond.  As long-time colleagues and friends, they
are looking forward to sharing the stage in Love Letters.

Arts Illiana will present Love Letters as a fundraiser to support the arts in the Wabash Valley with generous
sponsorship from both Community Theatre of Terre Haute and Indiana State  University, who is celebrating
its Sesquicentennial.

Love Letters opened off-Broadway in 1989 and later that year had its Broadway debut.
The actors who have portrayed Andrew and Melissa over the years include familiar and
famous names from the big and small screen and stage.

Love Letters has a long history
of being performed as a fundraiser for various causes.  In 2007, Elizabeth Taylor and James
Earl Jones gave a benefit performance to raise one million dollars for Taylor’s AIDS foundation.
Another noteworthy performance of the play was in 1995 when Lynn Redgrave
and John Clark, at the invitation of Judge Lance Ito, performed for the sequestered
jury on their day off, in the same courtroom where the O.J. Simpson trial was being held.

Tickets are $40 and include the play and appetizers.  A cash bar will be provided by Agave Vintage Cocktails.
Patrons are invited to try a cocktail specialty, the Love Potion!
(Bar will be open before the performances from 1:30 to 2:30 pm and from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.)
Reservations can be made by calling Arts Illiana (812-235-5007).  The play will be presented in the CTTH intimate Oakley Stage performance space.

Tickets are limited so patrons are encouraged to call early if there is a time preference.
