Music of the 21st Century:  Composer-in-Residence Christopher Theofanidis

American composer Christopher Theofanidis considers his music a “by-product of his approach to living,” and he has written for a variety of musical genres, from orchestral and chamber music to opera and ballet, including Siddhartha for the Houston Grand Opera and Heart of a Soldier, created with Donna DiNovelli, for the San Francisco Opera. Such acclaimed groups as the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra have performed his works. His large-scale piece, The Here and Now, for soloists, chorus and orchestra, based on poetry of Rumi, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2007. After teaching at Peabody and Juilliard, Theofanidis returned his alma mater in 2008 to teach at the Yale School of Music.
