“Halcyon Days” is the theme for the Juried Exhibition that is on view at the Halcyon Art Gallery in Terre Haute, IN from March 7th to 28th, 2014. This is the ninth in a series of juried exhibition as showcasing the best of contemporary art in all media. The juror Ray Chen, Curator and Executive Director of Exhibition has selected the theme and describes it this way. “Halcyon Days” opening up a conversation can be perceived as divisions between people and cultures.  The communication shares the artistic language; conceptual as in the definition of a medium and the desire to strictly or loosely define an artistic form; an interpretation as a personal artistic language, a conversation to share, a massage to state, a movement of shadows to follow, colors unpredictably to change, visual reaction from tradition to contemporary, a choice, an action, visible, invisible, intention, expressive…This exhibition is a broad concept and open to interpretation.  Halcyon Days is expressing a personal vocabulary through engaging art materials to its limit.

Chen says, “The viewing process and making decisions are important as to whether an artist has

captured the essence of the subject and moved further to a successful and meaningful presentation.  The works in the exhibition have opened a new understanding between form, media and possibilities”.

“Technical precision, conceptual aspects, tangible evidence of expression, quality sensitivity, and the ability to move viewers were involved in the selection process.  The artists move beyond the boundaries of technical training and express their subject in a way which makes the statement uniquely their own”.

“I thank all of the artists who took the risk bare their souls by submitting their work into the

Halcyon Days 2014 exhibition, and for giving me the opportunity to take the journey with them. Thank you all”.

“Halcyon Days” provides a response to the professional needs and interests of the State of the Indiana art community.  This exhibition is to strengthen communications between local and the nation. Through art materials enable us to communicate the breadth of intellectual and creative endeavor that characterizes our artistic and regional community from the arts and humanities to fine arts and the professions, Chen Says.
