Bicentennial Art Center, 18th Annual Paint Illinois Juried Exhibition

18th Annual Paint Illinois Juried Exhibition at Bicentennial Art Center.

 

          A reception will be held at the Bicentennial Art Center in Paris on Friday, May 16, 2014, beginning at 5:00 p.m., for the public and the exhibitors in the 18th Annual Paint Illinois Juried Exhibition.  Artists who enter are asked to interpret the people, landscapes and sights of Illinois.  The show is composed of 37 paintings entered by artists living in Illinois.  They were selected for inclusion in the show by Jenny Chi, a Professor in the Art Department at Eastern Illinois University, the juror for the competition.  Ms. Chi will critique the exhibit and hand out the awards at the reception at approximately 5:30 p.m.  

 

          The Judge’s Choice Award/Best of Show went to Jan Kappes of Arcola for her ink drawing titled “Bath, Bed and Beyond”.

 

          Merit Award winners are:  John Gabb, Effingham, “Sunlit Porch”, Watercolor; Jan VonBokel, Effingham, “Montrose Pond”, Acrylic; Sandra Lautrup, Effingham, “Octobers Colors”, Pastel; and Linda Bailey, Willow Hill, “Resting Snow Geese”, Acrylic.

 

          Artists selected to receive Honorable Mention awards are:  Nancy Hollis, Paris, “Autumn – Hunter Township”, Watercolor; Tom Swopes, Dennison, “Wet Weather”, Acrylic; Marcia Boroughs, Charleston, “Water Lilies”, Watercolor; and Edna Bright, Paris, “Red Fox”, Acrylic.

 

          Other participating artists include:  Dennis Collier, Paris; Sharon Hilbert, West Union; Eric D. Johnson, Paris; Marie C. Moore, Mattoon; and Clyde Sims, Charleston.

 

          The exhibit contains interesting paintings depicting subject matter from the State of Illinois.  Some of the artists have included a description of their entry indicating the location of the subject or what inspired the artist to choose their subject which visitors will find informative and interesting. 

 

          The exhibition will be on view to the public through June 13th.  Art Center hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or you may call for a convenient time.  Admission to the Art Center is free.  The Art Center is handicap accessible.  Programs and activities of the Bicentennial Art Center & Museum are funded in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.  The Art Center is located at 132 S.
